SUMMER BLOOD DRIVE
The Orange Medical Center (next to the new CVS on Rt. 15) will have a summer blood drive facilitated by Virginia Blood Services Thursday, July 17 from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the conference room just off the lobby area. Just walk-in; donors will be given the next available slot or a later one of their choice. Free VBS lightweight, nylon backpacks and VBS sports bottles. You are needed… please help!
AGING TOGETHER
The Aging Together partnership will hold its quarterly meeting Thursday, July 17 at Culpeper Library from 9:30-11:30 a.m. to update the community about the progress on improving quality of life for older adults. Topics include updates on regional transportation activities presented by staff of the Regional Commission, RRCSB/AAA, RSVP and VolTran programs; a report on the results of Aging Together’s Volunteer Recruitment Campaign and feedback from this year’s Community Conversations on Aging. Special guest, Ira Doom of Bedford Rides, will share information on a volunteer transportation network in his area. All interested citizens are invited to attend. BLUEGRASS/GOSPEL MUSIC
Friday, July 18 from 7-10 p.m. the public is invited to enjoy an evening of bluegrass and gospel music at the clubhouse next to Waugh’s off Route 20, Orange. ORGANIST AT WFS
Todd Wilson, a professor of organ at Indiana University, will perform on the Kenan Fisk organ, Opus 88, in St. Andrew’s Chapel at Woodberry Forest School on July 18 at 7:30 p.m. Wilson, described in the “Cleveland Plain Dealer” as a “fabulous virtuoso,” has performed in major cities across the United States, as well as in Europe and Japan. His concert, which will conclude Woodberry’s Summer Organ Course, is free and open to the public.
ARTS ALIVE! CONCERTS/SERIES
The Arts Alive! Summer Concert and Movie Series in Downtown Orange will be held July 18-19 and Aug. 7, 8 and 9. Friday night’s concert features Abbey Road, while Orange Jam and the Acme Swing Band perform Saturday. All events are held in Taylor Park, Main Street, Orange.
BENEFIT FUNDRAISER
A benefit fundraiser will be held Saturday, July 19 at Booster Park, Rt. 20, Orange, beginning at 2 p.m. to benefit the “McGinnis Medical Fund.” Join us for live music, an auction, a pastor’s dunking booth, yard sale booths, great food, pony rides, face painting, and snow cones for the children. Our hope and prayer is that we will all come together as a community to help this young teen in such a difficult time. All donations can be sent to Abundant Life Christian Fellowship, 19103 Brick Church Road, Orange, VA 22960 with “The McGinnis Medical Fund” on the memo line.
LEUKEMIA BENEFIT
An all-you-can eat dinner will be held at the Mine Run Volunteer Fire Department Saturday, July 19 to benefit 11-year-old Dillon Kincaid, who has been diagnosed with leukemia. Dinner will be served from 4-7 p.m. and the menu includes roast beef, gravy, mashed potatoes, green beans, corn pudding, salad, rolls, desserts and beverages. Cost is $15 per person. Children 6-12 eat for $5 each. Kincaid and his family live on St. Just Road in Unionville. The dinner will help the family defray medical, travel and in-home expenses. Carry-outs will be available. MOOSE PROGRAMS
Orange County Moose Lodge will have a fried chicken dinner with mashed potatoes, black-eyed peas and salad available at a cost of $7.50 on Saturday, July 19 at 6 p.m. On Sunday, July 20 a bingo players’ picnic will be held at the lodge at 12-noon; there will be games, hamburgers and hot dogs.

TENNIS NIGHT
Wednesdays (July 23) is men’s community tennis night and the purpose of this night is to get people out playing and try to get some of the more experienced players working with some of the novice players. You can come out and just hit around or play a match; whoever shows can play, it’s free. Bring a can of tennis balls with you; we want to get the community involved with tennis again. YOUNG AT HEART CLUB
The Young at Heart Club will meet July 23 for games and on July 30, Otis Gooding will be our guest speaker. The club meets every Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the East Orange Ruritan Building at the intersection of Routes 20 and 522. OC FAIR PAGEANT
The 21st annual Orange County Fair Pageant will be held Thursday, July 24 at 7 p.m. on the grounds of historic Montpelier (contestants need to arrive by 6:30 p.m.) Each contestant must be an Orange County resident; entry fee is $20 each. All forms may be dropped off at Orange County Extension Office (Sedwick Building across from McDonald’s, town of Orange) or mailed to Nancy Embree, 110 Berry Hill Road, Orange, VA 22960 by Monday, July 21. HARTLAND SERVICE
Hartland Institute will celebrate 25 years of touching lives in meaningful ways and alumni, friends and government officials will be coming together this summer for a 25th Anniversary Commemorative Service. Hartland Institute of Health and Education operates Hartland College (a missionary college) lifestyle center, publishing house and a diversified farm. This special event will take place at Hartland’s campus, 444 Hartland Oak Drive, Rapidan, on Sunday, Aug. 3 from 3-5 p.m. The public is welcome to attend. BELMONT HORSE SHOW
Saturday, Aug. 16 at 9 a.m. the 68th annual Belmont Horse Show will be held at the show-grounds, one mile west on Rt. 612 from Rt. 522, approx. 11 miles north of Mineral and 23 miles south of Culpeper; rain-date Aug. 23. No horse or pony may enter the grounds without proof of negative Coggins test within past 12 months; all pets must be on a leash. Admission is $7 adults and children 12 and under $3. Registration fees for ponies is $5 and for horses $10. Admission and registration covers all entry fees. EVENING OF HOPE
Evening of Hope dinner and silent auction will be held Wednesday, Aug. 27 at 6:30 p.m. at Stonefire Station in Barboursville with a three-course dinner prepared by Chef Melissa Close of Palladio Restaurant. There will be entertainment and a silent auction. The fundraiser will benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and the American Cancer Society.
