The Greene County Fair continues Aug. 14-16, Rt. 230, Stanardsville. There are rides, games, food, bluegrass music, animals and something for everyone.

VOTER REGISTRATION DRIVE
The Lake of the Woods Democratic Women’s Club will be conducting a non-partisan voter registration drive every Friday (Aug. 15, 22 and 29) during the month of August from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you are new to the area, or if you are not currently registered to vote, please stop by to ensure that one of your most treasured rights as an American, the right to vote for your elected officials and have a voice in your government, is secured. This is a non-partisan event and is open to everyone.
BLUEGRASS/GOSPEL MUSIC
Friday, Aug. 15 from 7-10 p.m. the public is invited to enjoy an evening of bluegrass and gospel music at the clubhouse next to Waugh’s off Route 20, Orange. Partners First Federal Credit Union (across from KFC on Madison Road, Rt. 15, Orange) will have a summer blood drive in honor of Stevean Irving. Virginia Blood Services is facilitating the drive on Friday, Aug. 15 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the bloodmobile. ORANGE BRIDGES RAFFLE
Friday, Aug. 15 Orange Bridges Recycling will have a bake sale and will be selling 50/50 raffle tickets at CVS in Orange from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Come to the bake sale and learn more about our new aluminum can recycling program; have a treat and try your luck at the 50/50 raffle. BELMONT HORSE SHOW
Saturday, Aug. 16 at 9 a.m. the 68th annual Belmont Horse Show will be held at the show grounds, one mile west on Rt. 612, from Rt. 522 approximately 11 miles north of Mineral and 23 miles south of Culpeper; rain-date is Aug. 23. No horse or pony may enter the grounds without proof of negative Coggins test within past 12 months; all pets must be on a leash. Admission is $7 adults and children 12 and under $3. Registration fees for ponies is $5 and horses $10. Admission and registration covers all entry fees. DMV DRIVING CLASS

The Orange County Moose Lodge and Women of the Moose will have a “back-to-school” event at the Lodge Sunday, Aug. 17 beginning at 1 p.m. We will be giving away free school supplies for students in kindergarten through sixth grade. NAACP TO MEET
The regular membership meeting of the Orange County NAACP will be held Monday, Aug. 18 at 6 p.m. in the Sedwick Building community room.
EMT-B COURSE
The Orange County Rescue Squad will be holding an Emergency Medical Technician class at Rescue Station #23, 151 Berry Hill Road, Orange with classes beginning Tuesday, Aug. 19 at 7 p.m. and final exam around Feb. 3. Course fee is $150; class is limited. Classes will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays and CPR is required prior to the class. Pre-registration is necessary, contact Stacy or Kelly at 854-6955.
SUPERINTENDENT SEARCH MEETING
The Orange County School Board will hold a special called meeting Tuesday, Aug. 19 at Taylor Education Administration Complex, 200 Dailey Drive with open session beginning at 12-noon. The Virginia School Board Association will present information on the superintendent search. All interested persons are invited to attend the hearing. The board may conduct executive closed session. ALZHEIMER’S SUPPORT GROUP
The Alzheimer’s Support Group meets at 10:30 a.m. the third Wednesday, (Aug. 20) of each month at Amerisist House in Orange. This is a free service of the Central and Western Virginia Alzheimer’s Association with Ann Anderson as facilitator. COMMUNITY TENNIS NIGHT
Wednesdays (Aug. 20) is men’s community tennis night and the purpose of this night is to get people out playing and try to get some of the more experienced players working with novice players. You can come out and just hit around or play a match; whoever shows can play, it’s free. Bring a can of tennis balls with you; we want to get the community involved with tennis again. YOUNG AT HEART CLUB
Young at Heart Club programs for August: Aug. 20, Erik Filep from Virginia Department of Forestry Service will be guest speaker and on Aug. 27, lunch at the Wood Grill. Dove hunters sporting clays Aug. 23 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Five station 25 round course, $8 per round and course is designed exclusively to simulate doves in flight. JM MUSEUM BOOK SALE
The James Madison Museum annual book sale will be held Saturday, Sept. 6 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 7 from 12-5 p.m. in the Hall of Agriculture. There will be a wonderful selection of new books because of the generosity of MPS, which will be sold at 10 percent of the cover price. AGING TOGETHER
Aging Together in Orange meets the second Wednesday, (Sept. 10) of the month at 10 a.m. at 127 Belleview Avenue, TRIAD Office in Orange. TRI-COUNTY TRACK MEET
On Saturday, Sept. 13 from 8 a.m. to 12-noon at Culpeper County High School the 2008 Tri-County Track Meet will be held. This event is open to all residents of Orange, Culpeper and Madison counties from ages four to 79. CANCELLED
The Robert and Annie Estes Hicks family reunion scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 20 has been cancelled for this year due to the use of the church. The 30th annual Gordonsville Street Festival will be Oct. 4 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. The Gordonsville Auxiliary is currently seeking entertainment for the festival. GORDONSVILLE STREET FESTIVAL
The Gordonsville Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary will be sponsoring the annual Gordonsville Street Festival Saturday, Oct. 4, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m., rain or shine. Main Street Gordonsville will be closed so over 100 booths of food, raffles, crafts and more can setup; several groups of entertainment will be performing all day. Spaces available for rent, 20x10’ is $40 and with electricity is $45; electricity available on a first-come basis. No bicycles or skateboards please.
