PACE TO MEET
PACE (Piedmont Area Christian Educators) will hold their first home-school support group meeting of the 2008-09 school-year Thursday, Sept. 4 at 7 p.m. at Culpeper United Methodist Church. SPAY/NEUTER TRANSPORTS

RIKKI’S REFUGE YARD SALE
Saturday, Sept. 6 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. there will be a yard sale to benefit Rikki’s Refuge Animal Sanctuary at 4276 Rolling Hills Drive (off Rt. 611) Orange. Available will be housewares, linens, holiday items, gently used clothing, furniture and much more; also, a raffle for toy store gift cards. For information call 540-854-0411. JM MUSEUM BOOK SALE
The James Madison Museum annual book sale will be held Saturday, Sept. 6 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 7 from 12-5 p.m. in the Hall of Agriculture. There will be a wonderful selection of new books because of the generosity of MPS, which will be sold at 10 percent of the cover price. We also invite you to donate any used books you no longer need to the sale; they may be brought to the museum any time during regular museum hours prior to the sale. Proceeds from the sale will be used to support ongoing operations of the museum at 129 Caroline Street, Orange. MOOSE CLUB BREAKFAST
The Orange County Women of the Moose will be serving breakfast Sunday, Sept. 7 from 9 to 11 a.m. for members and their guests only at the lodge, 16706 Mountain Track Road. Members bring your family and enjoy a home-cooked breakfast for $6 per person.

AARP TO MEET
The Orange County Chapter 5373 of AARP will meet Monday, Sept. 8 at 1 p.m. at Orange Rescue Squad building for their regular monthly meeting. Patty Harlow of Garden Gate Florist will present the program. Members are asked to donate school supplies to their favorite school as the community service project for September. CHORAL SOCIETY
The Madison Choral Society, directed by Martha Mikula, will begin rehearsals for their fall program Monday, Sept. 8 from 7-9:15 p.m. at the Madison United Methodist Church, Main Street, Madison. The major work for this concert will be Kirke Mechem’s “The Seven Joys of Christmas,“ a sequence of clever and interesting arrangements of familiar carols. There will also be some traditional songs of Mary and Christmas Spirituals. No audition is required but some music experience is helpful. MAAC MEETING
MAAC (Mature Adult Activity Club) will meet Sept. 9 from 9 a.m. to 12-noon at Orange Public Works Building on Warren Street in the Orange Community Room. CHILI COOK-OFF
A chili cook-off to benefit Sheltering Arms in Orange will be held at Rhoadesville Baptist Church in the new fellowship hall at 26402 Lafayette Drive on Saturday, Oct. 11 from 5-6:30 p.m. Admission is free; donations gratefully accepted. All proceeds benefit Sheltering Arms; come and support the shelter while sampling some of the best chili in Orange County. Bring a canned food item for Love Outreach and receive a door prize ticket. AGING TOGETHER
Aging Together in Orange meets the second Wednesday of the month (Sept. 10) at 10 a.m. at 127 Belleview Avenue, TRIAD Office in Orange. Aging Together is a community partnership devoted to improving long-term and support services for older adults and their families. Want your voice heard on senior issues in Orange County? UDC TO MEET
The 13th Virginia Regiment Chapter of United Daughters of the Confederacy will meet Wednesday, Sept. 10 at 10 a.m. at Mario’s Restaurant in Orange.

YOUNG AT HEART CLUB
Young at Heart Club September programs: Sept. 10, “I don’t need it” auction and Sept. 17, The Troubadours will perform, followed by a luncheon. The Young at Heart Club meets every Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the East Orange Ruritan Building, intersection of Routes 20/522. The Orange V.F.W. Post #2217 regular meeting will be held Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. at the post home on Brick Church Road. All members are encouraged to attend.

DAR TO MEET
The Montpelier Chapter of National Daughters of the American Revolution will meet at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, for a luncheon meeting at Hebron Lutheran Church, Madison; bring a covered-dish to share. The program will be presented by Betty Lynn Yowell, American History Chairman and the American History Scholars from Madison County High School. Members are asked to bring paperback books to be taken to McGuire Veterans Hospital in Richmond as a veteran’s project.

TRI-COUNTY TRACK MEET
If you want to participate in this Sept. 13 family-friendly event, the time to register is now. To allow time to compute and order the proper number of award medals and finalize the schedule of events, entries cannot be accepted after Sept. 5. The meet is open to all residents of Culpeper, Madison and Orange counties from ages four to 79. The county that wins the meet will take home the Winner’s Trophy. LOW REPUBLICAN WOMEN
Ed Meese, 75th U.S. Attorney General, will speak at a 10 a.m. buffet breakfast Saturday, Sept. 13, at the Clubhouse in Lake of the Woods. The event is sponsored by the Susan Allen Republican Women’s Club and is open to everyone. FAMILY FISHING DAY
On Sept. 13 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. a Family Fishing Day will be held to introduce kids to some ‘reel’ fun. Sign up now to spend a day at Northeast Creek Reservoir fishing with your children. All you need to do is show up; Louisa County Parks and Recreation will supply the fishing equipment, instruction, bait, snacks and hopefully the fish. The Family Fishing Day is for youth ages five through 13 and children must be accompanied by an adult. All participants must register by Sept. 10. MOUBRAY REUNION
The annual family reunion of James Lewis and Mertie Mae Moubray will be held Sept. 14 at Porterfield Park Shelter in Orange. The event will begin at 11 a.m. and everyone is asked to bring a covered-dish and beverage.

HUNTER EDUCATION CLASSES
There will be Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries free hunter education classes conducted at Woodberry Forest School Sunday, Sept. 14 from 12-5 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 21 from 12-5 p.m. Pre-registration is required and attendance at both day’s classes is required for certification. Hunters under the age of 16 and first-time hunters 16 and older must complete the course prior to purchasing a hunting license. BLUEGRASS/GOSPEL MUSIC
Friday, Sept. 19 from 7-10 p.m. the public is invited to enjoy an evening of bluegrass and gospel music at the clubhouse next to Waugh’s off Rt. 20, Orange. Come for the fun and music or bring your bluegrass instruments and play; open to all individuals and groups. REUNION CANCELLED
The Robert and Annie Estes Hicks family reunion scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 20 has been cancelled for this year due to the use of the church. 2008 HEART WALK

ATV TRAILRIDING BENEFIT
ATV fun-day is Sunday, Sept. 21 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. We will have led trail rides covering several hundred acres in Locust Grove, contests, door prizes, a 50/50 raffle, other raffle items, a concession lunch and more. TRAPPER EDUCATION CLASS
A trapper education class will be held Sept. 21 from 7:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the residence of Ed Crebbs, 175 Waldrop Road, Gordonsville. RELAY FOR LIFE

UM MEN BARBECUE
The Orange Circuit Men (Bethlehem and Salem United Methodist Churches) will have a pork barbecue Saturday, Sept. 27 from 4-7 p.m. at Bethlehem United Methodist Church, Unionville. A CELEBRATION OF LIFE
The Paul Stefan Foundation presents “A Celebration of Life” with guest speaker Raymond Arroyo on Saturday, Sept. 27 in the Fredericksburg Convention Center beginning at 7 p.m. with a dinner, guest speaker and dancing until midnight. The 30th annual Gordonsville Street Festival will be Oct. 4 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. The Gordonsville Auxiliary is currently seeking entertainment for the festival. GORDONSVILLE STREET FESTIVAL
The Gordonsville Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary will be sponsoring the annual Gordonsville Street Festival Saturday, Oct. 4, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m., rain or shine. Main Street Gordonsville will be closed so over 100 booths of food, raffles, crafts and more can setup; several groups of entertainment will be performing all day. Spaces available for rent, 20x10’ is $40 and with electricity is $45; electricity available on a first-come basis. No bicycles or skateboards please.
