YOUNG AT HEART CLUB
The Young at Heart Club meets every Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 1p.m. at East Orange Ruritan Building at the intersection of Routes 20 and 522. RRDSB MEETING

THE BIG BAZAAR
The annual big bazaar featuring crafts and baked goods will be Saturday, Nov. 15 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Lake of the Woods Church.  The craft sale will continue Sunday morning, Nov. 16.  A large selection of new crafts created by more than 20 crafters will be for sale.  They include Christmas decorations, flower arrangements, hand-painted wood items, Christmas table linens, vests, beautiful custom jewelry, handmade greeting cards, ornaments, candles, needlepoint, crocheted pieces, custom embroidered pillows and many other items.  Breakfast and lunch will be available Saturday.  Proceeds benefit LOW Church Youth Missions.  For more information, call Rosemary at 972-1375.

DEFENSIVE DRIVING
There will be a one-day DMV-approved defensive driving class at the Hornet Sports Center on Saturday, Nov. 15 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Five points will be awarded for successful completion of this eight-hour course. RIKKIS REFUGE OPEN HOUSE
Fall in love with the animals at Rikki’s Refuge Animal Sanctuary open house Saturday, Nov. 15 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cost per person is two (or more) cans of cat/dog food. Experience a guided nature trail walk and tour the refuge. Tours leave the gift shop every half hour until 2:30. Pet, feed, and love the critters from emus to pygmy goats. WORLD’S LARGEST THANKSGIVING DINNER
Have you ever wanted to enjoy a delicious meal and at the same time feed a family in need? Here is your chance. The Student Council of Orange County High School will host their sixth annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner, Thursday, Nov. 20 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at OCHS cafeteria. Tickets available from OCHS SCA members and at the door. $6 for adults, $4 for children age 10 and under. Menu: turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, green beans, corn, macaroni and cheese, cranberry sauce, rolls, drinks, pumpkin pie, coffee.

BASKETBALL SIGN-UPS
The Orange Youth Sports Foundation will hold boys and girls basketball registration for children ages 8-11 Sundays, Nov. 16 and 23 from 2-4 p.m. at the OCHS Hornet Sports Center in Orange. Orange Community Band Concert
The Orange Community Band begins its fifth year with a fall concert at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 16, at the Orange County High School. BLUEGRASS/GOSPEL MUSIC
Friday Nov. 21 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. the public is invited to enjoy an evening of bluegrass and gospel music at the clubhouse next to Waugh’s off Route 20. CHRISTMAS BAZZAR AND BAKE SALE
The Orange Community Church of Christ is pleased to announce its sixth annual Christmas Bazaar Friday Nov. 21 and Saturday Nov. 22 from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. There will be handmade crafts, costume jewelry, decorative items, artificial wreaths, children’s items, mouth blown Christmas ornaments and so much more!!  Donated used toys and other items will also be given away at this time. St. ISIDORE CHRISTMAS BAZAAR
Christmas Bazaar held at St. Isidore Catholic Church on Rt. 15, two miles outside of Orange Dec. 5 from 6 a.m. until 3 p.m. and Dec. 6 from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. Free coffee from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. Shop a selection of ornaments, blankets, pillows, pins, wool capes and vests, placemats, knitted items from afghans to scarves, table runners, table toppers, wreaths, wooden and sewn Christmas decorations, Santa and angel porch hangers, hand-painted trays and shelves, boxes, wooden candles, card holders and more. Many of the hand-painted items are one-of-a-kind, like the shelves, lamps, tables, doll beds, chairs and decorated glassware. There will also be gift baskets. Assortment of cakes, pies, candies and munchies sold throughout the day. Discount area, white elephant room and quilt raffle.

CHRISTMAS BAZAAR
Somerset Christian Church, located on Rt. 20 South, Somerset, is having their annual Christmas Bazaar and Brunswick Stew/Chili Festival, Saturday, Dec. 6.  The church doors will open at 8 a.m. with handmade Christmas ornaments, lots of miscellaneous handmade crafts and delicious homemade baked goods.  Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. that includes Brunswick stew or chili, corn bread, salad, homemade dessert and drink-all for $6.  The Brunswick stew or chili can be purchased by the quart for $5.  Also, raffle tickets will be on sale for a gift basket that includes $400 of gift certificates plus other items.  Ticket prices are one for $3, three for $5 and 10 for $10.  The drawing will take place Dec. 6 and you do not have to be present to win.  Call Janica Coppa at 672-6702 or at 832-3102 for more information.

MEMORIAL CHRISTMAS TREE
The annual re-dedication of the Community Memorial Christmas Tree will be held Sunday, Dec. 7, at 6 p.m. in Taylor Park in Orange. The Community Chorus, under the direction of Al Packard, will lead the music and Rev. Linda Hutton Rector of St. Thomas Episcopal Church will be the speaker.

MAAC MEETING
The Dec. 9 gathering will feature Charles Stewart, who will be performing classical and seasonal music on a musical synthesizer that features tones from an organ, harpsichord, and other instruments.  Each gathering starts with a little Tai-Chi.  The meeting starts at 9 a.m. and lasts until no later than noon.  For more information, call Ray Lonick at 672-4131 or 540-717-5629.
UNITY CONCERT
The first Unity Concert will be held Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. at the Orange County High School Field house. It will be unforgettable, with neighbors and friends coming together to unite. The night will begin at 7 p.m. with several local church choirs singing the night away. The grande finale will be a community sing-a-long with some of your favorite Christmas carols. ESSAY COMPETITION
The Julia E. Boddie Scholarship Committee invites the youth of the community to participate in an Essay Competition in celebration of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.‘s birthday. Awards in several categories will be presented Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009 at 4 p.m. during the 18th Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration in Rappahannock County held at The Theatre, Gay Street, Washington, VA. The Essay Competition theme is:  “Remember, Celebrate, Act:  A day on, not a day off.“  Students in 1st through 12th grades are eligible.  The deadline for returning nominations is Dec. 8, 2008 (postmarked).  Essays can be emailed to or mailed to MLK “Essay Competition”, c/o P.O. AARP TAX-AIDE PROGRAM
The AARP Tax-Aide program needs volunteers in the Orange area from Feb. 1 to April 15, to assist middle and low-income area residents in preparing their income tax returns. Volunteers will receive training in basic computerized income tax preparation during December at Lake of the Woods and must pass an IRS approved exam. You need not to an AARP member to volunteer. RAPIDAN BETTER HOUSING
Rapidan Better Housing is now accepting applications for its housing repair assistance program to include installing first-time wells and drain fields. Homeowners must be income-eligible, live full time in their home and be able to get an Orange County Health Department permit for a needed well or drain field. SCHOOL SUPPLIES NEEDED
The Orange County Office on Youth, Suite 258, Sedwick Building, 146 N. Madison Road, is collecting school supplies and distributing them to families who are unable to purchase them. RRCSB-AAA VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
The Protective Money Management Volunteer Program of Rappahannock Rapidan Community Services Board/Area Agency on Aging is looking for volunteers in Orange County to assist seniors and clients of the agency with financial management. This program assists senior citizens and clients with limited income who may be having difficulty paying bills or managing their finances. The Protective Money Management Program is sponsored in part by AARP. Volunteer money managers are carefully selected, trained and monitored. Each volunteer is paired with a client who needs assistance with financial affairs.
