The Orange Community Band begins its fifth year with a fall concert at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 16, at the Orange County High School. The music-filled afternoon will provide a tapestry of musical images for your listening pleasure.
Selections will stir images of the peace and tranquility found on the shores of Currituck Sound along the Outer Banks to images of the pomp and pageantry associated with early Rome. Selections will include the colorful rhythms of Spanish festivals to the pure American rhythms found in the fun and light-hearted tunes from Disney’s movie Cars. There will also be a collection of other familiar movie themes by award winning composer John Williams.
Since 2004, the 40-member concert band has performed each spring and Christmas as well as at Orange’s Fourth of July celebration-Picnic in the Park- and helped inaugurate the town’s New Year’s Eve Celebration, Music on Main Street. The band will also be performing at this year’s Veteran’s Day ceremony in Taylor Park the week before the Nov. 16 concert.
The community band’s director, Robert Hamrick, former principal trombonist with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, has taught at several major Pennsylvania universities and performed at over 1,300 concerts with the American Jazz Quintet, which he organized. He has performed internationally with well-known classical, pop, and jazz artists. His conducting credits range from Broadway shows to concert bands and symphony orchestras.
Bob Hamrick and the band promise an entertaining program for the whole family and invite all to attend.
