Arevalo completes Navy basic
Navy Seaman Apprentice Carlos D. Arevalo, son of Elma A. and Carlos W. Arevalo of Unionville, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois.
During the eight-week program, Arevalo completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.
The capstone event of boot camp is “Battle Stations.” This exercise gives recruits the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the fleet.
“Battle Stations” is designed to galvanize the basic warrior attributes of sacrifice, dedication, teamwork and endurance in each recruit through the practical application of basic Navy skills and the core values of honor, courage and commitment.
Its distinctly “Navy” flavor was designed to take into account what it means to be a sailor.
Arevalo is a 2007 graduate of Orange County High School.

Buresh deployed
Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class James E. Buresh, son of James E. Buresh of Locust Grove, and approximately 400 sailors were mobilized and deployed to the Middle East while assigned to Navy Expeditionary Logistics Support Group (NAVELSG) Forward Hotel home-based at Yorktown Naval Weapons Station-Cheatham Annex, Williamsburg.
Buresh’s unit deployed to relieve Navy Customs Battalion Tango to perform customs inspection missions in Kuwait and Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF).
NAVELSG Hotel will help ensure returning military equipment conforms to U.S. Department of Agriculture standards and ensure all gear returning with personnel serving abroad in support of OIF complies with U.S. customs regulations.
NAVELSG is a component of the Navy Expeditionary Combat Command (NECC). NECC is a global force provider of adaptive force packages of expeditionary capabilities to join war fighting commanders.
NECC serves as a single functional command to centrally manage the current and future readiness, resources, manning, training and equipping of the Navy Expeditionary Force.
Buresh is a 1996 graduate of Lake Braddock Secondary High School of Burke and joined the Navy in September 2004.
He is a 2006 graduate of Northern Virginia Community College, Annadale, with an AS degree.
