This month Dogwood Village of Orange County would like to recognize the Rev. Olin Herndon. Olin has been serving as the Volunteer Chaplain since 2001. Olin and his wife Donna moved to Orange in 2000, after he had served for 42 years as a United Methodist pastor. For most of that period, he had served in the Baltimore-Washington area, serving in his last pastorate for 12 years as the senior pastor of Glen Burnie United Methodist Church. His wife, Donna, is a retired teacher. They are the parents of two children, a son and a daughter, and four grandsons. Both Olin and Donna are from Georgia where they met attending a small church-related junior college. They were married after graduation and in September will have been married 51 years. After they graduated together, again at the University of Georgia, Olin completed his theological training at Emory University in Atlanta. Since that time, he has taken courses at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C., and has earned a Doctor of Ministry degree from Lancaster Theological Seminary. In retirement, Olin and Donna enjoy their home in the Montford area of Orange County near Montpelier. Trinity United Methodist Church is the congregation where they are active. Olin is a Master Mason and serves as Chaplain of Independent Lodge 138 in Orange.
