Fincham graduates VCU
Kristin Fincham graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University on May 17, 2008, with a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice with a concentration in forensic crime scene investigation and a minor in psychology. She graduated with institutional honors: cum laude, including a grade-point-average of 3.50 with a cumulative GPA of 3.533.
Fincham made the dean’s list with a GPA of 3.50 or better in six out of eight semesters.
Fincham was a Louisa County High School graduate. Her parents are Jeff and Patricia Fincham of Gordonsville and her sisters are April and Wendy.

Hutcherson earns
architecture degrees at Tulane
Tyler Burton Hutcherson received a bachelor of architecture and a master of architecture degree from Tulane University on Saturday, May 17. Tulane’s 2008 Unified Commencement Ceremony was a special one because it was the first commencement to be held at the Louisiana Superdome since Hurricane Katrina. Tyler received special commendation during the School of Architecture ceremony for his master thesis entitled “Rigid Systems: Interactive Solutions” and was awarded the Thomas J. Lupo Award which is awarded annually to a student, selected by the faculty, for excellence in metropolitan studies.
Tyler attended the University of Virginia for the 2005 Fall Semester when Tulane was forced to close because of Hurricane Katrina. He returned to Tulane for the 2006 Spring Semester to continue his studies in architecture and become involved in the URBANbuild program, a comprehensive program which provides community design services to actively support the rehabilitation of neighborhoods subject to damage in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Tyler was one of 15 architecture students to build the first prototype home during the summer of 2006 in the Treme neighborhood of New Orleans. Tyler plans to make New Orleans his home and has accepted a position with Sizeler Architects.
Tyler was a 2003 graduate of Orange County High School. Special thanks to Jimmy Kestner, former drafting teacher at OCHS, for laying a strong foundation in drafting and inspiring Tyler to pursue the field of architecture.
Tyler is the son of Burt and Donna Hutcherson of Gordonsville.

Ridgeway graduates Lynchburg College
Sarah Hampton Ridgeway of Locust Dale graduated from Lynchburg College with a degree in communication studies on May 10.
Ridgeway earned dean’s list honors for the spring semester 2008 at the college. Students who received dean’s list honors earned a grade-point-average between 3.5 and 4.0 for the semester and took a minimum of 12 credits.
Lynchburg College is a private college in central Virginia enrolling 2,500 students in the liberal arts and sciences, as well as professional and graduate studies.

Wilson awarded scholarship
Cargill has awarded a $1,000 scholarship to Madeline Wilson of Rhoadesville, a 2008 graduate of Orange County High School in Orange. Wilson plans to attend Sweetbriar College next fall. As part of the Cargill Community Scholarship Program, the high school will receive $200 from Cargill in Wilson’s honor to support the school’s library.
“We are pleased to recognize Madeline with a Cargill Community Scholarship and recognize this high school for its dedicated work as well,” said Roger White, of Horizon Milling in Culpeper. “Cargill supports education programs in our communities because youth are tomorrow’s workforce and our future community leaders.”
Each year, 350 students living in communities where Cargill has a business presence receive an award through the Cargill Community Scholarship Program. Students are selected based on academic achievement and leadership in extracurricular and civic activities.
This year more than 1,600 students applied for the Cargill Community Scholarship.
