A 39-year-old man was killed in a truck accident off Route 33 on Thursday morning, May 8.
Michael Wayne Allee of Beautiful Run Road in Aroda was driving eastbound on Route 33 in a 2007 International dump truck when he lost control of the vehicle, according to Virginia State Police Sgt. David O. Cooper.
The accident occurred at approximately 11:35 a.m., one mile east of Route 610, near the Greene-Orange County line of Barboursville.
Allee was carrying a load of gravel on the vehicle at the time, said Cooper.
“He lost control of the vehicle when he dropped off onto the shoulder of the road,” Cooper explained. “The vehicle struck a tree, overturned and struck a second tree. The second tree crushed the cab of the truck.”
Given the heavy load on the truck, “when he dropped onto the shoulder of the road, it pulled the vehicle,” Cooper added. “A lot of times the weight on the truck (will factor in) especially when it’s a soft shoulder (of the road).”
No other vehicles were involved in the crash. Speed was not a factor, nor were weather conditions, authorities say. Trooper C.E. Burkhead was the investigating officer in the incident.
