Deputies seek info on break-in, attempted scam

Orange County law enforcement officers are investigating a home invasion that took place last Wednesday in the Unionville area, and two other incidents near Rhoadsville and True Blue which occurred on the same day.
According to Orange County Sheriff Mark Amos, sheriff’s deputies responded to a home invasion on Colonel Drake Drive. At 6:30 a.m. on Aug. 27, Amos said, a woman answered a knock at her door to two men who said their car had broken down. The men asked to use the woman’s telephone, but when she handed them the phone, the men rushed through the door.
Amos said the men held the house’s occupants at gunpoint, and demanded money. They tied the occupants up and fled the scene with a large amount of stolen money. Amos said the men, described only as black males may have been driving a small white car. 
The case is under investigation by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
On the same day, sheriff’s deputies responded to both the Rhoadesville and True Blue areas after learning that three Hispanic males had approached a number of residences, attempting to gain access.
Amos said three Hispanic males, driving a red, full-size pickup truck with no front tag, had tried to gain entry into homes of elderly residents by telling them their water pipes needed maintenance.
In one instance, the men fled after being questioned by the resident about their identity. In another incident, the men entered the house and stole a wallet.
The case is still being investigated, Amos said.
