Local law enforcement urged citizens to be on the lookout for questionable people going door-to-door, asking for work.
The Town of Orange Police Department has one suspect under investigation and the Town of Gordonsville PD has reported several incidences of people soliciting work in town.
There are no reports of this type of activity from the sheriff’s office.
Gordonsville Chief Chris Spare said the town has had two incidents of solicitors looking for work.  In both cases, the solicitors told the potential customers that there was a problem with the chimney flashing.  They offered other services as well.  The Gordonsville Police Department made contact with both groups of solicitors.  Neither group had the proper equipment to complete the jobs.  Prompt calls to the police averted attempts of the solicitors, Spare reported.
Town of Gordonsville Ordinances 20-1 through 20-6 declares door to door solicitation as illegal without a permit.  Citizens have a right to ask for such permit.  There are specific exemptions for legitimate charitable organizations.  If you are unsure of the situation or someone soliciting work please call the police (540) 672-1200.  The town currently has no active permits.
