A Ruckersville man died Monday as a result of injuries sustained in a skydiving accident in Orange Sunday, according to Virginia State Police.
Sgt. F.L. Tyler said Francis Wooten, III, 54, of Ruckersville, died early Monday morning at the University of Virginia Medical Center of injuries from a skydiving accident at the Orange Airport Sunday afternoon.
According to Sgt. Tyler, Wooten was one of 20 parachutists making a jump above the Orange Airport. During his descent, he and fellow parachutist Robert Geral Kotenko, 29, of Washington, DC, came in contact with each other.
Wooten’s and Kotenko’s parachutes became intertwined, Sgt. Tyler reported, causing the chutes to collapse about 200 feet above the ground.
Both men were taken to UVa following the accident.
The incident remains under investigation by Trooper W.L. Lyle.
