A Bealeton man died early Tuesday morning after a single-vehicle accident near Route 522.
According to Sgt. F.L. Tyler of the Virginia State Police, Byron Thomas Norton, 27, was driving east on Route 651, Terry’s Run Road, about a mile east of Route 522, when his 2002 Cadillac Escalade exited a curve and ran off the road into a stand of several trees. The Escalade then went down and embankment where it overturned, ejecting Norton.
Sgt. Tyler said Norton died at the scene as a result of injuries sustained in the accident. He was not wearing his seatbelt.
Sgt. Tyler said alcohol was not a factor in the accident, but it appeared speeding was likely a factor.
Trooper S.E. Nelson was the investigating officers.
Representatives from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Orange County fire and rescue units and Spotsylvania fire units all responded to the accident.
