ORANGE - A jury today found Charles Stag Washington guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the death of a woman who was trying to break up a fight July 4.
After hearing closing arguments and deliberating, the jury found Washington, 43, guilty of the charge, which is lesser than the second-degree murder charge he faced in the death of 62-year-old Marilyn Baker.
Several witnesses testified Thursday that Washington accidentally hit Baker with a child’s scooter during a fight with another man in a Cathedral Place yard. Baker died the next day at a Richmond hospital.
The jury today recommended a 12-month sentence.
Washington will be sentenced June 12.
