Orange County High School
The high school Destination Imagination consisting of Mary Wooten, Laura Nixon, Ian Cashwell, and Dixie Cashwell competed in Knoxville, Tennessee at the Global Competition over the Memorial Day weekend. The students participated in the Chorific (Improv) Challenge and did a great job! It was a great experience for the students as they met people from other countries such as Turkey, China, Mexico, Guatemala and Poland.
June 7 - Graduation, 9 a.m., Porterfield Park

Market Day
On May 30, the Orange County Public Schools’ Gifted Resource teachers sponsored a Market Day for all second and third graders in the county. The event was held at the Hornet Sports Center. Approximately 800 children were involved in this economic simulation of the Free Market Economy.

Head Start
June 4 - Early Head Start end-of-year celebration, 4-7 p.m., Taylor Education Administration Complex (TEAC)
June 4 - Fatherhood Meeting, 6:30 p.m., TEAC
June 19 - Orange County Health Fair, 3-7 p.m., TEAC. Free health screenings for all ages, food, moon bounce and door prizes.
Food Service
Sodexho’s General Manager, Jack Noonan, hosted the annual picnic and awards ceremony for all the food service employees. Awards are as follows:
Cindy Lucas, cafeteria manager, Lightfoot Elementary - Best lunch participation rate, Best performance in principals’ surveys.
Denise Snow, cafeteria manager, Orange County High School - Most improved revenue to enrollment award.
Marjorie Lindsay, cafeteria manager, Unionville Elementary - Gold Principal Award.
Theresa Knighting, cafeteria manager, Prospect Heights Middle School - Manager Award for Excellence in Managing, Most improved breakfast and lunch participation.
Cindy Harrell, cafeteria manager, Gordon-Barbour Elementary - Best Breakfast Participation.
Darlene Shifflett, cafeteria manager, Locust Grove Middle School - Manager’s Award that goes to the staff that goes above and beyond to serve the children.
