Disappointed by cold shoulder

I was astonished when there were a few girls who visibly refused to help wash my car with their group because of a political bumper sticker on my car.

Did I miss something at donkey basketball?

What I saw was a well-organized family event that was very funny for all ages! What I did not see was animal cruelty or lack of respect!

What’s different about donkeys?

The letters to the editor referencing cruelty to the donkeys in the recent donkey basketball game held at the Orange County High School Fieldhouse is somewhat concerning.

Supervisors come to meetings with minds made up

The citizens of the county need to get more involved and let the board of supervisors know how they feel about the issues.

Board’s comments about Boosters distasteful

Are your facts right, Mr. Johnson?

Wake up America! Loved ones are dying

In this real world that I live in, and given the nasty reputation for violence this country has acquired in the past, I fear for the safety of both Senator Clinton and Senator Obama, should either one of these presidential aspirants somehow win the presidential race in November.

Stay the course in upcoming election

You hear these phrases a lot these days in the national election scene. The town of Orange is having an election May 6. All town citizens who can vote should exercise their right. I am sure you will be hearing from all of the candidates soon if you haven’t already.

Animals tortured for your pleasure

I am writing to you today to express my outrage at the fact that Orange County would even consider an event so horrific as donkey basketball.

Thought county was more progressive

I’m disgusted that Orange County would plan a donkey basketball game as a fundraiser.

Instead, put saddles on event organizers

Why not just put saddles on the sponsors of this show, and have the crowd cheer them on?

Doesn’t teach respect for animals

Most people have realized that abusing animals for amusement is just considered cruelty

Suggests county is backward

I have read that Orange County held a donkey basketball game. As we have progressed as a society and made great strides toward becoming more humane and civilized, events like this just do not fit.

Our opinion

Maintain interest beyond the budget.
Despite hard times, helping hands still needed

Cars for Homes helps Habitat

“Cars for Homes” is an innovative way for you to help families in our community build homes and the hope for a better life! By donating a car, truck, boat, RV, motorcycle, construction equipment, trailer or other vehicle (even an airplane), you can help Orange County Habitat for Humanity to build houses in partnership with families in need of decent, affordable shelter.

Hospice questions legislations

Now President Bush has proposed a budget that cuts hospice rates even more, seriously threatening the ability of dying patients to get the care they need when it counts the most.

Child Garden closing travesty

There are no words to describe how disappointed I am in the Orange County Board of Supervisors. I presently have a child who attends the Child Garden, a daycare center run by the Orange County Parks and Recreation Department.

Posing three school site hypotheses

The only personal interest I have in this discussion is that I believe the wrong decisions have been made for the wrong reasons, and there is no valid data that supports the argument that EMF poses no health risk at the eastern middle school site.

Supervisors didn’t listen to Child Garden advocates

This could be an opportunity to keep the Child Garden open.  Please, if there is anything the parents of the Child Garden can do, let us know; we are willing to help to keep this center open.

Current decisions equal future costs

Your editorial, “We can’t have it both ways” in last week’s Review, did an excellent job of laying out the choices facing the taxpaying citizens of Orange County, and by extension, those of us you have elected supervisor.

Child’s accident not newsworthy

We are responding to the article written about our son, Stephen Caleb Smith.

Web-sighting

Some of you may have noticed that the Orange County Review website (http://www.orangenews.com) looks a little different this week than it did a week ago.

Congratulations to Orange County Review

Hearty congratulations to you Jeff and to Phil Audibert, John Strader and Hannah Wever on your numerous Virginia Press Association awards ("Review recognized by Virginia Press Association,” March 20).

Park honors Cooke, not Guptons

The town is planning a dedication ceremony, along with a plaque naming the park in honor of Mr. Cooke.

Save parks and rec program

I believe the board of supervisors should be able to come up with a compromise that would benefit the citizens of Orange County and their Rec Dept.

Enrollment, Debt Numbers Don’t Add Up

On Tuesday, March 11 at approximately 5:15 p.m. on a vote of 3 to 2, the Orange County Board of Supervisors voted to almost double Orange County’s debt service from a current $87.2 million to approximately $145 million.

Okay If Good Services Cost More

Having the lowest possible real estate tax rate is not a sensible objective.

Economy Fragile, Delay New School

I am responding to supervisor Teri Pace’s column in the latest Orange County Review newspaper and request for input in the current budgeting process.

PHMS Traffic Back-Up Suggestions

When the “new” PHMS was built, I was pleased. While the new PHMS is quite nice and appears to have been well-planned, I am wondering who “planned” the Route 15 entry into the school complex?

Increase? How About Decrease!

There certainly was a lot of news in the February 28th edition of the paper; most of it bad for the Orange County taxpayer.
