Improving elections
Our opinion

Don’t forget about displaced workers
They should be judged based on merit, not for who they worked for, or rumors.
Can’t support Cantor
if everyone were like Eric Cantor, our current representative to Congress, these magnificent animals would be shipped off to slaughter houses to be sold for human consumption.
Mismanaged economy
It is all a part of a diabolical scheme to reward the money lenders, the insurance companies, broaden the tax base, and provide grist for the mill on Wall Street.
Voting for the Constitution
Anyone considering voting to make Barack Obama the next President of the United States of America should consider a few things first.
Time to end Republican rule
The Republican Hate Machine goes around the clock when they know they are going to lose.
Let your voice be heard
As taxpayers and landowners in Orange County, it is imperative that we fully understand the impact of these restrictive changes on our rights as property owners.
Onerous ordinance? Let your voice be heard

Vote ‘em all out and start over
Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them.
Suggesting a better spot for Wal-Mart
We cannot destroy this most precious place with all its history.
Serious subjects, serious study
Perhaps there is nothing like a bit of a disagreement to attract the public’s attention. If so, recent discussion may serve to increase public insight into Orange County comprehensive planning.
A voice for the voiceless
Editor’s note:
In last week’s edition of the Orange County Review, Pastor Billy Curry’s letter was inadvertantly cut off. This week, his letter is published in its entirety.
Thoughts on Gordonsville issues
It was with much interest that the latest and varied news was posted in the Review recently. To me, the following topics were worthy of note and accordingly, these are a few views of mine.

Memories of Orange
In early summer an elderly gentleman came into my gallery. He told me quite an interesting story.
Here it is in his own words.
The wrong project in the wrong place
We strongly believe that the proposed Wal-Mart Supercenter in Orange County is the wrong project in the wrong place.
Review article prompts Gordonsville reflections
My great-grandmother, Grace Davenport Gooding, used to take me with her downtown to get the mail at the old post office across the street from Preddy’s Funeral Home in Gordonsville
Some growth needed for viable economy
I am glad to see responses to my letter last week, because I have one agenda and one agenda only: to help Orange county, and present the facts, not opinions.
A critical election issue
I want to plead with all of you voters to consider praying before you go to the polls on Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008.
Why I’m voting for Obama
But, only in an atmosphere where we include all of our citizens and forsake the money-changers and the select and solemnly consider our position in the world will our country stand.

Raising the BAR?

Thanks for future fair property
On behalf of the Orange County Fair Association, I would like to thank the Emerson Charitable Trust for its very generous gift of 100 acres of land to our organization.
Wal-Mart here not necessary
The Wal-Mart store would attract commercial sprawl, turning a busy intersection into one with large traffic problems and thousands of additional vehicles.
New develpment won’t stop future tax increases
It is foolish to believe that new development will eliminate increasing taxes.
Clarifying CFO’s stance on growth, development
CFO is in favor of commercial development where it is compatible with key historical or other unique sites and does not appreciably increase our rate of population growth.
The vast pro-rural conspiracy?
As the Orange County pro-rural vs. pro-residential growth debate continues, something else continues to proliferate: the inaccurate portrayal of the positions of those who want to preserve the rural character of this community
Review plays a critical community role
It is my understanding the owner of the Orange Review, Media General, has forced cost-cutting mesures on the newspaper that will make it even more difficult to maintain the high journalistic standards and community service that has consistently characterized the newspaper in the time I have lived in the area.
Thanks for restoration support
It was wonderful to share the results with the world on Constitution Day, Sept. 17.
Just what does “rural” mean?
