What happened to my hometown?

In the time it takes to read this and make a decision as to how far you will go, another woman will be diagnosed and another will die.

The recent board of supervisors election was gratifying in many respects.

A single mother with her three young children had sought housing, comfort and food at the shelter. Thin and haggard, she was anxious about her babies.

When “King George” first assumed the throne in January 2001, the national debt was $5.7 trillion, and is now projected to be in excess of $10 trillion, by the time his royal highness abdicates, in January 2009.

We can no longer remain silent and contain our anger!

We would like to assure everyone that the Civil War Museum at the Exchange Hotel is open as usual and rumors of its closing are untrue.

Our members are learning leadership and communication skills as they build their own self-confidence. Our members are excited about learning to care for their livestock and beloved pets.

Now is the time for headlines to reflect the facts.

In response to Mrs. Bergstrom’s letter, she misses one very important point.

If it’s to draw attention to the cutbacks and express sympathy for those affected, I am aligned with her. If it’s to make the site directors appear lazy and overpaid, I take issue with this. 

Contrary to popular belief that small town businesses can’t compete - you will find they absolutely can.

Truly, we have become a nation of “fabricators,” with our Commander-in-Chief leading the way!

At least two of the aforementioned people should volunteer to resign.

Did they have some sort of traumatic event happen to them when they were young in a Wal-mart?

I encourage the King family and other Orange County supervisors to carefully explore Mrs. Pace’s environmentally-friendly, world-class resort and recreation complex proposal.

I bet Mr. Rolfe didn’t take a pay cut to help with the county budget. Maybe the board of supervisors should cut Mr. Rolfe’s pay and make his job part-time, see how he likes it.

Let’s continue to make Orange the place we can all be proud to call home.

Major donors are being sought and grants pursued, but many of these avenues have been explored already, and the county has indicated that only a massive showing of financial support from the community will permit this much-anticipated library to be built. 

We feel that Orange citizens should be aware of a series of events which have involved at least three levels of county government (including the board of supervisors), and dragged out over two years, that possibly resulted in the expenditure of taxpayer funds during that period.

Please accept this invitation to join us at the meetings and become involved in the issues concerning our town.

I have stayed out of all this because I have always thought this election “stuff” was a tempest in a teapot, which has gotten more press than the recent murder trials.
