To the editor,
The recent wine festival at Montpelier was a great opportunity to promote local businesses and Orange County, and an inspiration for participants to visit our beautiful county again and again. Unfortunately, the landfill also received some visitors…namely many tons of unwanted glass that could have been recycled. Last year, the wine festival collected and recycled nine tons of glass and six tons of cardboard. And while the wine festival did collect and recycle the cardboard at this year’s event, most of the glass wine bottles ended up in the landfill. Economics and irresponsibility contributed to the end result of all that glass being thrown away. We must begin thinking about how our actions, however small, affect the health of our planet. We must make recycling a priority at all events. It is the right thing to do for our county and environment and it’s so easy!
