To the editor,
After attending the Orange County Board of Supervisors public hearing Tuesday, June 11 and listening to the big box ordinance discussion, I know one thing for certain. I wouldn’t want at least three board members selling my home. Their position is - set the price low and expect the buyer to offer more than the asking price.
The discussion on setbacks and guidelines was insane.
With few exceptions, retail and commercial architecture isn’t the kind we want hitting us in the face. That’s why setbacks and vegetation are desirable for screening. Signage takes care of customers finding what they are looking for.
Kudos to Ms. Pace for her intelligent and insightful reasons why the bar should be set high for any guidelines covering potential commercial, retail or office development. By doing so the county bargains from a position of strength.
Perhaps the board majority would like to save us all a lot to time and just post a big sign in front of the Gordon Building that says “Giveaway - one beautiful county.”
