To the editor,
I would like to share my enthusiasm for our very own Orange County 4-H Goat Club. This is an active club with members ranging from 5-16 years old. We have retained original members from the initiation of our club and have increased in membership year after year. Parents recognize the goat club’s educational and life experience content as well as our focus on husbandry and community service. Our members are learning leadership and communication skills as they build their own self-confidence. Our members are excited about learning to care for their livestock and beloved pets.
The Orange County Fair remains a huge event for our 4-H members and their families. It has become an annual pilgrimage for families. It brings together family, friends, responsibility and fun!
While some of our members auction their goats at the fair, many do not. Instead, they raise their goats and become operational and enthusiastic breeders. We encourage a healthy bond between caregivers and their livestock whether bred for fiber, dairy, meat or show. And you should see the pride they take in their animals! If you haven’t seen the 4-H Goat Show, I invite you to do so. It will be held Thursday evening. Come celebrate our Goat Show’s seventh year.
Care to sponsor a portion of our event and support the continuity and desire of country lifestyle in our Orange County youth? Sponsoring one class is as inexpensive as $30! You can pick your class or we’ll handle it for you. Your donation helps pay for the club’s fair expenses such as ribbons, trophies, prizes and premiums. General donations are equally and greatly appreciated.
Thank you and I hope to see you at the fair!
