To the editor,
I just read an amazing statement on the record by an elected official during an Orange County Board of Supervisors meeting Tuesday, May 10.
Apparently, Supervisor Teel Goodwin said he was “no longer giving the benefit of doubt” to Supervisor Burkett honorably defending his wife because of my letter to the editor.
I graduated from high school in Southern Virginia and after Annapolis, served for over three decades in active and reserve duty with the United States Marine Corps. I was also confirmed by a unanimous bipartisan vote in the U.S. Senate as Presidential Appointee giving me the little, “The Honorable” for life.
For an elected official, Supervisor Goodwin, to use the power of his office to imply that my letter defending the character of Marcia Landau, my friend for over a quarter century, is somehow dishonorable, is very wrong on his part. His snide and dismissive public attack gives me pause that perhaps there may be some truth to the allegations that Supervisor Burkett and his wife are facing a cabal of elected officials, developers and a prosecutor who have personally singled them out using the power of the state.
I sincerely hope this isn’t a case of “Nifonging” your opponents for political gain. My fellow citizens of Virginia deserve better.
