Goal is to help local businesses prosper

To the editor,
In response to Mrs. Bergstrom’s letter, she misses one very important point. For people like myself who work until late afternoon, most of our projects must be done at night or on the weekend. When I leave work, where do I shop? The places she talks about are all closed at night, and none are open on Sundays. When I can, I shop the local shops, but people can’t change their work schedules just to support local businesses. And by the way, if a Home Depot is on Route 3, isn’t it still in Orange County? Wouldn’t we still be supporting an Orange County business? I’m pretty sure most of their workers would be local. Wouldn’t we be supporting the local economy?
This is not an either-or proposition. I serve on the chamber board with many local business people and I will do whatever I can to make sure they continue to prosper. But people are already shopping the Home Depot, Wal-Mart and Lowe’s. They are just leaving the county to do it.
