To the editor,
How far would you go to find a cure for cancer? We’re walking 60 miles but all you have to do is go to dinner! In the time it takes to read this and make a decision as to how far you will go, another woman will be diagnosed and another will die. The actual statistics, one woman is diagnosed with breast cancer every three minutes, and one woman will die of breast cancer every 13 minutes in the U.S.
We’re not asking you to go those 60 miles but go to dinner for the cause. This is an invitation to attend our first ever gala, “An Evening of Hope” to be held August 27 at Stonefire Station in Barboursville. Stonefire Station and Barboursville Vineyards are kindly co-sponsoring this event, which is a fundraiser to benefit the American Cancer Society and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. and include a three-course dinner by chef Melissa Close of Palladio Restaurant. Musical entertainment will be provided by Joshua Walker, a versatile guitarist and composer. This will be an evening of awareness and fun with a silent auction and other surprises.
As a mother and daughter team, we are long-time supporters of the American Cancer Society (ACS) and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Through our Relay for Life team, Tammy’s Rainbow Warriors, we have raised over $15,000 for ACS in the past five years. This fall we will participate in the Breast Cancer 3-Day, a 60-mile walk, raising a minimum of $5,000 for the Komen Foundation. Through this event, it is our hope to raise at least $12,000 to continue supporting these organizations. That’s how far we’ll go.
Ticket prices are as follows: $40 single, $75 couple, or $375 for a table of 10.
Decide how far you’ll go to fight cancer, take action, get a group of friends together for an evening of food and fun, and join us in our personal efforts to support these two amazing organizations. Act quickly as seating is limited!
