Letter was about Johnson’s record, not Jones’ integrity
Published: June 4, 2009
To the editor,
A letter in last week’s paper complains about an earlier letter making “distasteful and completely false” remarks about Rea Jones. No examples were cited.
I did not remember the referenced letter doing that. So I reread it and it did not. That letter was not about Mr. Jones.
The letter did strongly disagree with Mr. Jones’ views of Mark Johnson and noted that it was common knowledge that Johnson intended to run for re-election in spite of his earlier announcement that he would not. The letter focused on Mr. Johnson’s record. But no false remarks were made so far as I can tell. Johnson’s record is what it is.
Distaste may be more in the palette of the taster. Perhaps this indignant defense was just a “straw man” set up and pummeled for other purposes.
