Walmart will be an asset here

To the editor,
We definitely need the Walmart approved for Orange County.
The sooner the board of supervisors can give the final approval the better. There are many acres of land in the county that have been preserved for the Wilderness battlefields. It is impossible to preserve every acre of property that a Civil War soldier set a foot on. If that had happened there would probably not be any buildings in the whole county.
A Walmart would be a great asset to the county. It would provide much-needed shopping in Orange County, and jobs, and much-needed revenue. It is upsetting that a group comes in from far reaching areas to protest it. Robert Duvall from Hollywood, and Representatives Peter Welch from Vermont and Ted Poe from Texas, a letter in the Orange Review from a citizen of Minnestoa stating that Walmart would be an insult. They should worry about what is going on in their own states.
I do wonder if any of the above has ever done any serious shopping in Orange County. I doubt it because they would understand the need for a Walmart.

My husband and I totally agree with the Wray’s.

And LeMat61, you need to know that this is not hallowed ground, holy ground, or anything else but dirt.  Our elected officials need to know that they serve for the health and general welfare of the public.  And if that site is used properly, and will not endanger the public in any way, they have no right to vote other-wise.  They are not a tourism board.

I do not oppose a Walmart in Orange County, but I do not want it at that terrible intersection of 3 and 20. As for outsiders coming in, where do you think Walmart comes from? Arkansas, not Virginia. Remember, the Wilderness Battlefield does not belong to us who live in Orange County. We are only caretakers of that hallowed ground for the people in the 27 states that had soldiers, both blue and gray, who fought there 145 years ago.

walmart would be an asset, but the wilderness battlefield is a tremendous asset.  move walmart up route 3 a little bit in the county, and we can have both!

I agree with Carolyn and Boyce.  I don’t know why we have all these outsiders coming into Orange and telling us what we can build and what we cannot.  Orange is losing jobs everyday.  Orange needs the job, the tax revenue and a decent place to shop.  Not only do we need a Walmart near Rt 3, we also need some type of store closer to the town of Orange.  Wake up Orange.  Culpeper is growing every day.  Louisa is growing.  Orange is standing still.  Eventually Orange is going to become a ghost town.
