The Orange County High School varsity baseball team dropped to 3-4 on the season, as they struggled against Monticello High School Tuesday night at home, coming away with their first district loss of the season.
It was a close game for Orange, who lost to Monticello by a score of 6-5.
Although Derek Justice pitched well for Orange for the first four innings, he got into a little trouble and D.J. Brown took over. Brown only gave up one hit, but he suffered the loss.
Lazaro Torres had a 3-for-4 night, with two RBIs.
Hornets coach Jesse Lohr said Orange, “did not capitalize on our early opportunities as well as we should have.”
Lohr added, “in the late situations, I believe we got a little excited and maybe allowed our nerves to effect our play. Monticello did a great job on capitalizing on our misfortunes.”
The Hornets didn’t let Tuesday’s disappointing loss linger. Instead, Orange took its frustrations out on a visiting James Monroe team Saturday afternoon in Orange.
Orange swept the Jackets in a doubleheader, shutting them out both times. Orange won the first game 3-0 and blanked the visitors 10-0 in the second game of the twinbill.
