Starter Evan Price got the win for Orange, and Derek Justice pitched the final three innings to get the save. Jake Pelton took the loss for Monticello.
On the night, Price was 2-3 with two stolen bases, and he scored three runs.
Justice, Matt Torres, Colsten Bayless, and D.J. Brown all performed well offensively for the Hornets.
Of the Orange defense, Coach Lohr said, “Nelson Vargas, our shortstop, has played very well since being put in that role.”
A night earlier, the Hornets lost a disappointing 6-5 decision to homestanding Fluvanna.
Orange jumped out to an early 5-1 lead through three innings but couldn’t hang on, giving up four runs in the fourth.
Orange loaded the bases with no outs in the sixth, but were shut down by Fluvanna’s Kyle Vian who pitched six innings, striking out seven in the outing.
Orange plays next Wednesday night in Charlottesville, at 7 p.m.
