Charlottesville frustrated Orange on senior night Monday, playing stout defense in a 0-0 double overtime tie in varsity boys soccer.
The tie was disappointing for the Hornets who are hoping to secure a Region II tournament berth with a Jefferson District title.
The Hornets dominated possession against the undermanned Black Knights but had only a handful of good scoring opportunities and they were all turned away.
Despite the fact Charlottesville spent much of the evening playing defense, Orange goalkeeper Joe Morrison recorded five saves in the draw.
The tie put the Hornets’ record at 10-1-2 as they head to Louisa Thursday to face the Lions. The boys conclude the regular season Monday at Western Albemarle in a match-up of the Jefferson District’s top two teams.
The Hornets reached the 10-win mark Thursday with an impressive 2-0 shutout of neighboring William Monroe in Stanardsville.
Matt Cronin scored the Hornets’ first goal off an assist by Alex Rosales.
Rosales finalized the scoring for the Hornets on a free kick.
Coach Dwane Pugh credited Morrison and the Hornet defense for preserving the shutout.
The win improved the Hornets’ record to 10-1-1.
