Matt Cronin scored the game-winning goal late in the second overtime period as the Orange County High School varsity boys soccer team defeated Charlottesville 2-1 Monday night.
The win moved the Hornets to 5-0 and 1-0 in Jefferson District play.
In a battle of two of the area’s top teams, the Hornets and Black Knights remained tied 1-1 at the end of regulation.
Orange scored its first goal in the opening half, when Schuyler Whelan found Antonio Flores to tie the game 1-1.
After a scoreless second half and first overtime, the Hornets rallied with Cronin’s late goal, with three minutes remaining in the second extra period.
Last Thursday, the Hornets had little trouble with visiting Madison, completing the season sweep of the Mountaineers with a 4-0 shutout win.
