Girls fall to Fluvanna, Monticello

The Orange County High School girls tennis team played Fluvanna tough but couldn’t scratch out a win, losing 6-3 Friday.
Nearly every match was tight, but Orange dropped to 2-12 on the season and 1-7 in the Jefferson District.
In singles play, Brittney Squires beat Weihe 10-5.
Second-seed Becca Hanley fell to Eldridge 10-2.
Third-seed Maria Kotulka lost a close match with Williams 10-8.
Chelsea Jones beat Scruggs 10-5 for the Hornets’ other singles win.
Erin Chapman dropped her match with Lenard 10-1, while sixth-seed Hillary Bourke lost to Templeton 10-3.
In doubles action, Squires and Hanley teamed to beat Eldridge and Williams 11-10, winning the tiebreaker 7-3.
Tomko and Walker barely beat Kotulka and Jones 11-9 and Lenard and Scruggs teamed to beat Chapman and Bourke 10-6.
The girls had a tough time with district-leading Monticello Thursday night in Orange.
The visiting Mustangs blanked the homestanding Hornets 9-0.
Gaffney beat Orange top seed Brittney Squires 10-1.
A. Wagner defeated Orange second-seed Becca Hanley 10-0, while Lebeis beat third seed Maria Kotulka 10-3.
Chelsea Jones came the closest to winning for Orange, dropping her match with Shaw 8-6.
Geldmacher beat Hornet fifth seed Erin Chapman 10-1, while Hillary Bourke fell to Bowles 10-3.
In doubles play, A. Wagner and E. Wagner beat Orange’s top team of Squires and Hanley 10-1. Geldmacher and Pimentel beat Kotulka and Jones 10-4 and Hathaway and Shaw defeated Chapman and Bourke 10-1.
The Hornets Monday match with King George was rained out. Orange will travel to Charlottesville Tuesday before hosting Louisa next Thursday.
