The Hornet’s softball team played away at Western Albemarle Friday night, relying on excellent teamwork to win the game, 16-6. Despite a few injuries, the Hornet players stepped up and worked the field, playing positions that they may or may not have been used to. Senior Alicia Washington especially helped the team, filling in for freshman Michala Sacra whose sore back prevented her from pitching. Washington had not pitched in over two years, and yet, did an outstanding job to help defeat the Warriors.
The girls played hard offensively, getting many hits throughout the game. Big hitters for the game were Kayla Cable, Mandi Murphy, Paige Pritchett, Michala Sacra, and Tina Spencer.
Runs were scored by Cable, Ashley Heath, Alicia Humes, Murphy, Pritchett, Megan Roberts, Sacra, Kate Searcy, and Spencer.
The win improved the team’s record to 10-2. The girls will play again Thursday night at home against William Monroe at 5 p.m., and Friday at home against Monticello at 6 p.m.
