Friday night the girls played home against Louisa defeating the Lions 3-0.
Before the game began, the OCHS Hornets took a few moments to graciously thank the many sponsors that helped to make their new field a reality.  Sponsors included Allied Concrete, Joe Amberger, Cavalier Fire Protection, C.R. Butler, Glen Hudson, Hudson Contractors, Jack Rickett, Mike’s Glass and Mirror, Pepsi, Coach Ryder, Rodney Sedwick, and Sedwick Building Supplies.
After this show of gratitude, the girls rocketed onto the field and started putting runs on the board.
In the bottom of the first inning, third baseman Tina Spencer sent the ball sailing to left field, earning herself a triple.  Not missing the opportunity, she quickly stole home on a passed ball to the catcher bringing the score to 1-0.
Throughout the game, the Hornets worked hard to keep the Lions from scoring runs of their own.  The team stayed strong, with Spencer making a nice double play from third to first base in the fourth inning.
The girls were at it again in the fifth when pitcher Michala Sacre smacked a single to center field.  Sacre then stole second moving closer to scoring position.  A beautiful bunt by catcher Paige Pritchett moved Sacre to third, and an overthrow to first on the same play brought Sacre home.  With Pritchett on first, Heather Jenkins stepped up to the plate, and nailed the ball to center for a double that brought Pritchett home, making the score 3-0.
Playing in the mud and rain, the girls battled against the elements for a decisive win against the Lions, increasing their overall record to 15-4 and 9-2 in the district and tying them for first.

May 6th- Home Charlottesville

The Hornets softball team crushed the Charlottesville Black Knights at home on Tuesday, 21-0.  Excellent batting and a number of walks from Charlottesville’s pitcher allowed the girls to accumulate such a high score.  Senior Alisa Washington was on the mound for the night, earning eight strikeouts.
All of the girls made many hits throughout the game to help contribute to their impressive final score.  Freshman Michala Sacre hammered the ball for two home runs, and Washington did the same, for one home run.  Sacre also smacked the ball away for a double, two singles, and two RBI’s.  Junior Kate Searcy had four RBI’s and three singles for the night.
The team’s athleticism showed throughout the game as they pushed hard, inching one step closer to the district title.
The win improved the team’s record to 14-4 overall and 8-2 in the district.
