The Orange County High School girls tennis team lost a heartbreaker Monday night, dropping all three doubles matches in losing to Charlottesville 5-4.
The young Hornets’ squad held a 4-2 advantage after singles play, but couldn’t win a doubles match and dropped to 1-3 (0-1 district) on the season.
In singles, Orange’s Brittney Squires beat Indu Chellah 10-6. Second seed Becca Hanley beat Charlottesville’s Rachel Woolworth 10-6.
Hornet Maria Kotulka earned a third win for the Hornets with a 10-8 win over Josie Evans.
Charlottesville’s Emma Paine beat Orange’s Chelsey Jones 10-1 and Caroline Cox beat Erin Chapman 10-4.
Hillary Bourke defeated Rita Ghawtey 10-8 to put the Hornets up 4-2.

Evans and Paine teamed to beat Kotulka and Jones 8-6.
Bourke and Tee Warren lost to Cox and Ghawtey 8-5.
“We need to work on our doubles play,” coach Jay Allen said. “Hopefully, we can keep some of these matches close and pull out some of them.”
The girls tennis team got its first win of the season Thursday with an 8-1 drubbing of Spotsylvania.
The Hornets won all but one of their singles matches and swept doubles play to earn their first victory.
