The Orange County High School girls tennis team earned their second win of the season with a balanced effort Thursday night in Fluvanna.
The Hornets won split the six singles matches with the Flucos, but won two of three in doubles play to earn the 5-4 win.
The win improved the Hornets’ record to 2-3 and evened their Jefferson District record at 1-1.
In singles play, top seed Brittney Squires beat M. Weike 10-4.
Second seed Becca Hanley beat G. Williams 10-6.
At the third seed, Hornet Maria Kotulka fell to A. Eldridge 10-2.
Fourth seed Chelsea Jones lost to H. Scruggs 10-5.
In the match-up of fifth seeds, A. Leonard beat Orange’s Erin Chapman 10-0.
And in the final singles match, Hornet Hillary Bourke tied the match up at 3-3 with an 11-10 (7-4) win over B. Templeton in a tiebreaker.
In doubles play, Squires and Hanley teamed to beat Williams and Eldridge 11-9. Kotulka and Jones avenged singles losses with the clinching 12-10 win over Ponko and K. Walker. Scruggs-Leonard teamed to beat Orange’s Bourke and Tee Warren 6-1 to round out the scoring.
