The 2008 tennis season ended last week for Orange County High School’s top singles players and doubles teams.

Boys tennis team wins, loses

The Orange County High School boys tennis team split two matches early this week, blanking King George 9-0, but falling to Charlottesville 5-4.
Hosting the Black Knights Tuesday, Orange won two matches on the court and two others by forfeit, but couldn’t win the clinching fifth match that would have secured the victory. 

Boys beat Monroe, tie CHS

Charlottesville frustrated Orange on senior night Monday, playing stout defense in a 0-0 double overtime tie in varsity boys soccer. 

Hornet girls keep winning: win three straight in district

The girls maintained a strong defense Friday night away in Greene to scorch the William Monroe Dragons 4-2.

Girls fall to Fluvanna, Monticello

The Orange County varsity girls soccer team had a tough day last Wednesday hosting Fluvanna in a game rained out two days earlier.

Friday night, the Orange County High School varsity baseball team defeated Monticello High School 6-2 in a match that was full of brilliant defensive plays.

The Orange County High School varsity boys soccer team suffered its first loss of the season Friday, falling to Fluvanna 2-1 in Palmyra.

Girls drop one-run games

Thursday night in Orange, the Hornet’s softball team suffered one of their few losses of the season against the William Monroe Dragons, 4-3.

Western shuts out Orange boys

The boys were generous hosts to visiting Western Albemarle Thursday, losing all six singles and all three doubles matches to the visiting Warriors.

Western Albemarle had no trouble with the visiting Hornets Thursday, blanking Orange 9-0 to remain undefeated.

In sports, when the stakes are high, the team that has an edge will often prevail. Well, on Thursday night, Round 1 of the Jefferson District’s boys soccer showdown went to Orange County’s boys soccer team.

Chelsea Jones and Hillary Bourke won their singles matches but it wasn’t enough to help Orange overtake Louisa Tuesday night.

The Orange County High School boys tennis team blanked Louisa Tuesday afternoon, running their record to 6-3, 2-3 in the Jefferson District. 

OCHS Softball edges Louisa, controlls tournament

Tuesday’s Jefferson District matchup between Louisa County and Orange County was a prime example of what high school softball is all about.
On Saturday, the varsity softball team controlled the tournament at Broadway, defeating both Hidden Valley and Broadway to bring home yet another trophy and improve their record to 8-2.

Hornets sweep doubleheader

The Orange County High School varsity baseball team dropped to 3-4 on the season, as they struggled against Monticello High School Tuesday night at home, coming away with their first district loss of the season.

Local golfers compete in Georgia

Two local golfers represented Orange County well in the Plantations Junior Golf Tour’s Junior World Qualifier held April 5-6 at Jekyll Island Golf Club in Georgia.
