American Legion Post 156 won three of its last four games to improve its district record to 6-3.
The Orange senior league boys beat Waynesboro Post 340 Monday 7-5 with a late rally and solid pitching.
Orange coach Chris Haney said his boys pitched well and played solid defense to win.
D.J. Brown started for Orange and threw five solid innings, giving up two runs.
Matt Simpson relieved him in the sixth with Orange trailing 2-0.
A four-run rally in the seventh inning gave Post 156 the lead and Evan Price closed out the game in the ninth to earn the save.
We still didn’t hit, Haney lamented. Perhaps the hitting highlight of the game came when Orange’s Jeremy Brown lined a foul ball that hit Haney while he was in the thirdbase coach’s box. Haney joked, “I told him he’d have to hit it harder than that!”
Orange’s win followed a disappointing 11-1 loss to King George Post 89 Saturday.
“We just got beat,” Haney said. “But the score made it look a lot worse than it was.”
King George used solid pitching and defense to earn it’s ninth straight win. Post 89 pitcher Mike Baskeyfield scattered eight hits over seven innings, while his defense made three double plays behind him.
Orange scored its only run in the fourth when Lazaro Torres’ double plated Jeremy Brown who had led off with a single.
Post 89 went ahead for good in the fifth and blew it open against Orange’s bullpen.
Earlier in the week, Orange beat up on visiting Louisa 10-7 at Porterfield Park, building an early 6-1 lead by the fourth inning. “We played a solid game,” Haney said.

The Post 156 junior league team won two of its last three to improve to 4-6 on the season.
The Orange boys beat Chancellor Post 320 6-4 Friday night behind three shutout innings by pitcher Brett Ralls.
Nine Orange batters had hits, including Austin Roberts who had two hits, including a triple. Nick Bledsoe also tripled and drove in two runs.
The Orange boys beat Stafford Post 290 6-3 last Wednesday night in Orange.
Zak Reininger pitched four innings of one-hit, one-run ball to earn the win. Rahiem Cooper went 2-2 with a double and scored twice. Crew Via, David Dulin, Reininger and Dillon Wagner each drove in a run for Orange.
