Track teams compete at invitationals: UVa’s Dogwood Track Classic

Last Wednesday, the Orange track team traveled to Fluvanna to compete against Fluvanna and Fork Union. Only the boys competed against Fluvanna, beating them for second place.
In the 110 meter hurdles, Jeff Carey and Lamar Gordon placed first and second.
Carey and Gordon also placed first and second in the 300 meter hurdles, respectively.
Tyrone Ellis took third place in the 100 meter dash.
Logan Collins won the 1600 meter race by nearly a minute. Collins also won the 800 meter run, followed by Chris Lewis in fourth.
In the 3200 meter race, Paul Ciskanik took fourth, followed by Drew Wallace in fifth.
Gordon placed fourth in the triple jump
In the discus throw, Wayne Wright and James Harris won first and second for their team.
Darius Carter placed fourth in the shot put.
The girls completed the meet with a total of fifty-nine points.
Andrea King and Gabrielle Holloway won first and second in the 110 meter hurdles.
In the 100 meter dash, Ashontae Jackson, Nichole Givens, and Lynnie Bresnahan dominated the top three spots, respectively.
Jackson also won the 200 meter dash, followed by Givens in fourth.
Bresnahan and Holloway placed second and third in the 300 meter hurdles.
In the 1600 meter race, Virginia Peck took second, followed by Jessica Hensley.
Nicole Walters won first place in the 800 meter run, followed by Kathryn Baker and Courtney McDonald in third and fourth.
In the long jump, Jackson took second while Peck placed fourth.
Bresnahan won the long jump and Kelsey Gibby took fourth.
Bresnahan also placed second in the discus throw.
Over the weekend, the both teams fought increment weather to compete in the Dogwood Track Classic at the University of Virginia. Due to rain, the meet was cancelled, leaving some events unfinished.
Out of fifty-two competitors, Ellis took sixteenth in the 100 meter dash.
Collins placed seventh our of fifty-five others in the 1600 meter race.
Carey took third out of thirty-eight in the 110 meter hurdles.
The 4x100 relay team of Ellis, Reggie Spencer, Michael Johnson, and Kevin Pearson took eleventh our of twenty-nine other teams.
Lewis, Gordon, Evan Walters, and Nick Talbert took eighteenth our of twenty-ninth in the distance medley.
Out of one hundred teams from across Virginia, the boys placed 24th overall.
The girls had an exceptional meet, placing 17th overall.
Givens took twenty-eighth out of forty-two others in the 100 meter dash.
The sprint medley team of Jackson, Kayla Jones, Givens, and N. Walters placed second out of seventeen and set a new school record with a time of 4:18.18.
Also setting a school record was the distance medley team of N. Walters, Jones, Jackson, and Peck. The girls placed third out of sixteen with a time of 13:20.40.
Bresnahan took seventeenth out of forty-four in the long jump with a distance of 16’5¼”.
Both teams traveled to Western Albemarle yesterday, April 30, for a meet against Western Albemarle and Charlottesville (after presstime).
