The Orange Track team had a busy week, hosting Senior Night on Wednesday then traveling to Tennessee for the Volunteer Track Classic Friday and Saturday.
This year was one of Coach Almond’s largest senior nights in some time. Twelve seniors were honored including Lynnie Bresnahan, Jeff Carey, Logan Collins, Gabrielle Holloway, Michael Johnson, Erica Nixon, Kevin Pearson, Shauna Prasse, Wyatt Pratt, Reggie Spencer, Nick Talbert, and Nicole Walters.
Both teams won the meet against William Monroe.
For the boys, Collins won the 1600 meter race, followed by Paul Ciskanik in third.
Talbert took first in the 800 meter race.
Tyrone Ellis and Reggie Spencer took first and second in the 200 meter dash.
In the 3200-meter race, Chris Lewis and Ciskanik took first and second.
The Orange boys rounded out the top five in the long jump with Eddie Ellington, Spencer, Pearson, Lamar Gordon, and Lewis placing respectively.
Darrius Carter won the shot put with a distance of 42’2”.
The girls’ team had an equally successful evening.
Andrea King and Holloway took first and second in the 110 high hurdles
Virginia Peck and Jessica Hensley placed first and second in the 1600-meter race.
Shakiyla Jenkins took first in the 400-meter race, followed by Ashley Almond in third.
In the 200-meter race, Nichole Givens took first, followed by Jenkins.
Nixon and Erica Barge took first and second in the shot put event.
Nixon also placed first against five other competitors in the discus event.
Friday, Carey, Pearson, and Collins represented Orange at the Volunteer Track Classic.
Pearson placed sixth in the 200-meter race and the long jump. In the 100-meter dash, he placed seventh with a time of 11.08.
Collins took fifth in the 800-meter race with a time of 1:56.29.
Carey placed 10th in the 300 meter hurdles. He placed sixth in the 100-meter high hurdles with a time of 15.09.
The girls did extremely well also, setting many records along the way.
Walters qualified for AA State meet and set a new school record in the 800-meter race with a time of 2:24.15. She came in seventh place.
Lynnie Bresnahan took fifth in the long jump with a distance of 16’2”. She also completed a triple jump of 33’3/4”.
Ashontae Jackson took fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 61.00.
Kayla Jones completed the 200 meter race with a time of 28.79.
The 4 x 400meter relay team of Walters, Jones, Bresnahan and Jackson did a fantastic job, finishing in fourth place and setting a new school record with a time of 4:06.86.
The team traveled to Fluvanna Wednesday (after presstime).
