Track teams shine at Western

Last Wednesday, the Orange track team traveled to Western Albemarle to compete against Western Albemarle, Charlottesville, St. Anne’s-Belfield, and Covenant.
The boys had a great meet, placing third.
Jeff Carey and Lamar Gordon placed first and second in the 110 meter high hurdles, respectively.
Carey also took first in the 300 meter hurdles.
In the 100 meter dash, Tyrone Ellis placed second, followed by Reggie Spencer in fourth.
The 4x100 meter relay team of Ellis, Spencer, Michael Johnson, and Kevin Pearson took first place.
The team of Avery Powell, Chris Lewis, Eddie Ellington, and Nick Talbert placed second in the 4x400 meter race.
Pearson took first in the 200 meter race, followed by Johnson in second.
In the 800 meter race, Logan Collins took first, followed by Lewis in fifth.
Pearson and Spencer came in second and third in the high jump.
In the long jump, Pearson placed first, followed by Lamar Gordon in third.
Philip Barge and James Harris came in fourth and fifth in the shot put.
Harris took second in the discus throw while Barge took fourth.
The girls had an even better night, winning their portion of the meet.
The 4x800 team of Kathryn Baker, Kayla Gibson, Courtney McDonald, and Shauna Prasse placed second.
Nicole Walters, Lynnie Bresnahan, Prasse, and Ashontae Jackson made up the winning 4x100 team.
Placing second was the 4x400 team of Baker, Gibson, Shakiyla Jenkins, and McDonald.
Bresnahan took third in the 100 meter high hurdles.
In the 300 meter hurdles, McDonald placed second.
Jackson won the 100 meter dash, followed by Nichole Givens in third.
Walters took first in the 400 meter race, followed by Jenkins in fifth.
In the 800 meter run, Baker came in second while Gibson took fourth.
Bresnahan, N. Walters, and Givens dominated the top three places in the 200 meter race, respectively.
Jessica Hensley placed fourth in the 3200 meter race.
Bresnahan placed second in the high jump, long jump, and triple jump.
Jackson took third in the long jump.
In the shot put event, Erica Nixon took first, followed by Bresnahan in second and Erica Barge in fifth.
Nixon also won the discus throw while Barge came in second.
Both teams traveled to Fluvanna last Friday to compete against fifteen other schools in the Fluvanna Invitational.
The boys came in second place as a team.
Pearson, the boys MVP of the meet, took first place in the 100 meter dash.
The 4x800 relay team of Talbert, Powell, Lewis, and E. Walters came in sixth.
Ellis, Spencer, Johnson, and Pearson made up the 4x100 team that placed second.
Coming in fourth was the 4x400 team of Collins, Johnson, Gordon, and Lewis.
Jeff Carey won the 110 meter high hurdles and took second in the 300 meter hurdles.
Pearson placed fourth in the 200 meter race.
Collins won first place in the 800 meter race.
Pearson also took third in the high jump and sixth in the triple jump.
The girls had an equally impressive meet, placing second as well.
Both the 4x800 team of Jones, Bresnahan, Baker, and N. Walters and the 4x400 team of N. Walters, Jones, Bresnahan, and Jackson took first place.
Andrea King placed sixth in the 110 high hurdles.
Bresnahan took fourth in the 300 meter hurdles.
In the 400 and 200 meter races, Jackson won first place.
N. Walters took first in the 800 meter race.
Jackson came in fourth in the long jump.
Bresnahan took fifth in the high jump and fourth in the triple jump.
Both traveled to Spotsylvania yesterday, May 7, to compete against Caroline and Spotsylvania. They will also compete at the Louisa Invitational tomorrow, May 9.
