The Lake of the Woods Barracudas made an amazing comeback to win their first regular season meet against Fox Point Fintastics July 2 with a score of 254-250.
The meet was located at Fox Point Subdivision in Spotsylvania County in a 25-meter pool under clear skies.
After the freestyle and age group relay events, the Barracudas were trailing 39 points.
Once the butterfly, backstroke and breaststroke events got underway, true Barracuda talent shone through.
Laine Harrington, age 8, was a triple winner, earning a blue ribbon in all her individual events, which consisted of a 25 M butterfly (23.58), 25 M backstroke (25.86) and a 25 M breaststroke (28.95). Mason Greenblatt, age 8, also won all of his events with a solid performance in his 25M butterfly (23.74), 25 M backstroke (28.24) and 25 M breaststroke (29.49).
The Barracudas continued to chip away as the Fintastics led throughout the evening.
Going into the last event-the boys graduate relay-the Barracudas were trailing by only one point.
The boys in the relay fought hard for the win. The last swimmers in the relay were Jeffrey Stoddard, age 17, for the Fintastics and Drew Wallace, age 15, for the Barracudas.
Both led an exciting dash for the finish line. Wallace ended up clocking in at .08 seconds faster, giving the Barracudas their first victory of the season.
