While many area youth are still sleeping, a dedicated group of kids and coaches are up and swimming at the Orange Country Town Pool located just east of the town of Orange.
These youth have been in the water since Memorial Day, practicing and getting in shape for another swim season.
Their hard work and dedication will be evident Tuesday, June 24 as they kick off their competition season with a swim meet starting at 6 p.m. at the Country Town Pool in Orange against Fauquier Springs Country Club.
The Orange Otters consist of 115 local swimmers of all ages. Orange coaches work hard to encourage all levels of competition and must be doing something right, since 14 of the swimmers that signed up this year are age 6 or younger.
These small swimmers are the future of the team. While there are a number of year-round swimmers who have been competing for several years there are also first-timers coming out to the pool and preparing to race.
The Orange Otters have been Tri-County Champions for two years in a row under coach Joe Fischer and look forward to another winning season.
In addition to the meet Tuesday, June 24, the Orange Otters will be swimming June 28 against Fauquier Swim Club at Orange; July 8 against Culpeper Country Club at the Culpeper Country Club; July 12 against Chestnut Forks Swim Club at Chestnut Forks and will wrap up their regular season July 17 against rival Culpeper Rec Club here in Orange.
You can check out the Orange Otters and the Country Town Pool on the web at http://www.orangecountrytownpool.org or come on out to the pool and enjoy some hot dogs and hamburgers while you watch the kids race.
